I was counting on my wife to nix this with a Hell No . . .

but she was surprisingly sympathetic when I spotted the 2017 Shelby GT350 nearby with 2600 miles on it. Kind of makes me suspicious - I'm not sure if I have some fatal disease that she knows about and I don't, or she figures this is my last hurrah with muscle cars at my advancing age. She did make an allowance as to -"Well you are still working so I guess you can afford it." Of course I still had to deal with the salesman and I went in low and ended up high - well actually 3/4 of the way to where he started - but we ended up on good terms. I rationalized in the end that my 2012 GT had 30,000 miles on those summer only, high dollar, Pirelli performance tires and I was probably going to spend $1,500 to replace them before long.

This thing has more gadgets and performance stuff crammed into it than I will ever use. I think the display will bring up at least 20 different gage readings for oil, water, transmission temperature, head temperature, intake air temp, A/F ratio, etc, etc. Even has a transmission cooler. And the engine - 12:1 compression, 4 OHCams, flat plane crank, 8,250 rpm readline, 526 HP. Also, dual disc clutch, tremec 6 speed. Wow.

It's also a drastic color move from the subtle and stealthy silver of my 2012 to the arrest-me-red of this car. But we have had a bunch of silver and grey cars and with the exception of my 12 GT, someone has run into every one of them (at least once) while we were just minding our business. After a lady did a head-on, left turn swerve into the driver side of my 2008 Mustang GT and totaled it and fortunately didn't kill me, I swore off any more - but then I couldn't walk past that beautiful silver 12 GT. I drove that thing for over 4 years with a high degree of paranoia. We have a theory that silver and light grey cars nearly match the color of weathered asphalt and concrete pavement and don't register with inattentive drivers - who then try to drive over the top of you. I told my wife they will see this thing coming down the road so I shouldn't have to deal with that anymore.

But anyway - here is my latest folly:

I don't know if it was fortune or misfortune that I finally closed the deal on it when I did. While I was gone to get the 12 GT title from our safety deposit box, some young guy came in with the hots to buy the car and wanted to know where this potential buyer was (me) because he wanted this car badly and wanted to negotiate with me for it(???). But he had given up by the time I returned. Not sure how he figured that was going to work to anyone's advantage except the dealer.

Beautiful car, Dan - enjoy! Also, give your wife an extra long hug - my wife is also tolerant of my obsessions and it's something to be appreciated.

Well good news is made to share!

This has made my day as well as yours I'm sure!

That monster is exuding power just sitting there in a photograph.

I love your "arrest me red" connotation, I use it all the time.

Last year a bought a Platinum Silver ride specifically to "fly under the radar".

Wish me luck on my impending demise with the other motorists who can't register Silver.

Thanks Nomad. I do love silver - it just exhibits class. Those Infiniti's are nice cars and I think they have day-time running lights. My 12 GT didn't and was always forgetting to turn my lights on which just made me more stealthy - not necessarily a good thing.

Thanks for all the comments and I'll give my wife that hug Kevin. Figured out this morning how to turn the sport exhaust mode on - makes it quite the snarling beast. I'm pretty excited.

    Kerry,

I have looked at them here a couple of times and if I could afford one I would have one.

    Barry,

You are right about that. Asking him to pay is no problem. Getting him to do it is something else.
