When we came back to the US in May of 2000 we could not believe how many people (that had never been interested In auto racing) were suddenly interested in NASCAR. With the exception of Daytona I just don't care. With the new rules I don't care about Daytona.
The one line never heard in Heaven "Gee! I wish I had spent a little more time in the office."

That would be an interesting survey. From youngsters who can't be bothered to former fans who find it more important to play baseball with junior.

The simple answer is that they do not have a product that true race fans want to watch.
Although I grew up in the South near some of NASCARs venues I never had interest in the sport ... I could not see the sport in going around a track in a left handed circle.
I only gained an interest after attending a race at Bristol around 2005 or so ... but only because attending a race was such a totally different experience ... good race, listening to the communications between the drivers, the spectacle of the multiple vendors/shows outside and inside the venue, 160,000 fans (seats were full all three days).
I guess my point is they can have all the digital and social media they want but if they don't get fans in seats at least once or twice a year to experience the real thing ... they will continue to lose fans.
I personally would like to see more road race vice round track races ... like Silverback said "they don't have a product that true race fans want to watch".

I was a fan till around '71 when the winged cars were castrated for being too far removed from "production cars".
I'm still waiting to see a Toyota production car with a pushrod V8.
