    Chateau Impney With Packard

No racing here just a lot of very nice and expensive old cars. The wheelbase on that Packard looks as if it is the length of two of todays modern cars.

I like that Packard--almost like a cartoon car that stretches two blocks and bends in the middle around corners. There are flames coming out both sides--is that a V-24? What do you suppose that bomb-looking thing is below the exhausts?

I am not sure but here is a picture of one of them from the other side. I wonder if that is something to stand on when working on the motor.

    Looked like a Merlin motor.

I was also wondering if it was a V24 or a V12 with two exhaust ports per cylinder.

If it was a Rolls Royce Merlin it would have been a V12

Sure looks like a V24, but I've never heard of such a beast.

Actually as I look at it some more I'm sure it's a V12 with two exhaust ports per cylinder. The exhaust ports are too close together for it to be a V24 unless the bore diameter is 2.5 inches or less.

    OR

The Packard-Bentley "Mavis" is a vintage racing car built by VSCC member Chris Williams. It is powered by a 42 litre Packard V12 developing 1500 bhp (1100 kW). This engine is a Packard 4M 2500 from a World War 2 PT boat.
