    New windshield arrived

Who's up for helping install a new windshield?

Some of you may know, my car came with some sort of clear plastic windshield, with a nasty scratch right in my line of sight and minor swirl marks. I ordered a new DOT approved, glass windshield this past Monday and it arrived today.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks before I get started on the windshield? It seems pretty straight forward.

    Thank you,
    George

In this case I would suggest Google. While I have never done it myself, I have seen a couple videos of it being done and it is not an easy job from what I remember.

    George,

That is a good video and you really have to watch to see that the screws aren't to long. Also you might talk to Carl as he has finished his windshield mounting on his Cobra. I think that when I did mine I got new screws at the hardware store but it was so long ago I don't remember. Also check the frame at each corner to see if it is wrinkled from the bend. Mine was perfectly smooth but I know a couple who sent theirs back a time or two as they were really badly wrinkled in the corner. I also mounted mine so it was just a little above the body when the bolts were in and then I used a strip of rubber to seal the bottom which stopped any rattle or the windshield frame from wearing on the paint.

    Ron,

I will definitely watch the video. I hope mine is a “plug and play” as I ordered a glass only. My thought is to remove the existing screws, remove the old windshield and install the new one.

Think that might work? I’ll have a second set of eyes, my Dad, oversee the job!

    George,

If the new glass gits your frame correctly that would be the way to go as you already have your mounting points on the frame and everything should go right back the way it was.

The windshield is back in the frame, but not set back in the car. I hope to have it back in the car tomorrow.

New windshield installed. I have not had the car out yet. Maybe later today.

    Thank you...

I compared the polystyrene windshield to the new glass windshield and I shake my head in disbelief that I didn’t replace it sooner.

    George,

That came out great and I think most of us are a little worried when we start doing anything like putting in a new windshield. Now you can get out and really enjoy driving the Cobra.

    Ron,

Thank you. One more project, installing the new dash and gauges.

The best part is it's still in one piece.
