I think he did tap it once with his rear quarter - or came very close. Have a friend who is restoring an original 63 Galaxy 427/410 HP - quite the behemoth. He's 78 years old and still going strong on car restorations.

When I was a kid they use to run NASCAR races in the late 50's and early 60's at the state fair grounds here in Sacramento during the state fair. The races were run on the one mile dirt oval horse race track. As kids, we couldn't afford to buy tickets to the race so we'd sneak through the bushes that surrounded the perimeter of the track and watch the race through the cracks in the fence. All the old great names were there....Fireball Roberts, Fred Lorenzen, Ned Jarrett, etc. Good times !

    Ted,

Back then they actually raced cars and the best car and driver would normally come out near the top. They didn't have the morons that now run NASCAR trying to control who wins.

Come on Ron, are you trying to tell us it rigged?

It's as real as big time wrestling!

They used to run USAC stockers at the Indiana state fair grounds. Also at raceway park (now o'rielly's). I watched AJ, Parnelli, Herk and others at those tracks.

    Great stuff!

Well Tom, there are a lot of us that refer to NASCAR as the professional wrestling of motorsports.
