The 1950s car turning heads in Syria

Neither war nor the Islamic State group has stopped Abu Malek driving his 1952 classic car across Syria.

The 67-year-old DeSoto Powermaster is a bit worse for wear, but still works.

Fifty years ago, the petrol engine was switched for a British tractor engine.

Before the most recent war, when fuel was better quality, Abu Malwk says it could reach 140km per hour.

That was interesting Gian. I wonder what the top speed is with the tractor engine. If I was driving where he is I would was a really fast and preferably invisible car. Thanlks for posting it.

Not sure there is too much "classic" left in that poor old thing. But still rolling along.

    A DeSoto limo?

Or possibly a taxi. A lot of taxies were DeSotos back then. It has a solid front axle on leaf springs there....wonder what that is from.

    Engine must be a Perkins.

Well ... I like it and I like that he manages to keep it on the road.
