Don't have much info on this car other than these photos were taken during the 1963 Le Mans. Anyone know whats going on with the headlights in the color photo? They appear "normal" on the B&W photo...

    Gian,

I believe it may be the camera angle. They look as if they may have been extended out just a little in the color photo as it looks like a ring around them and a small brace to the fender on the one that is closest. I believe in the black and white photo I can see the place where the small brace goes to the fender. It looks more like a spot in that picture. Maybe the rings were for easy adjustment of the headlights.

My guess would be some sort of "better" light than original and maybe a some sort of quick change. Most of the 24 hr cars always had additional lights in the center opening or on a light bar across the front.

    Cool find though.

I think Mark is right on track there.
Aftermarket seal beam of some sorts, not originally intended to fit the roadster bucket and ring. Aircraft landing light perhaps?
The old standard 7" seal beam would be easy to out-drive on the Mulsanne straight.

I came across this article from "THE MOTOR" magazine dated 17 July 1963 which adds to the 39PH Cobra in post #163.

Some nice period 427 Cobra photos with Jerry Titus at the wheel. Not sure what chassis number this car is; does anyone know?

    UPDATE: It's CSX3011.

Leaping Cobras ... Gian this one you posted is pretty interesting ... the landing must have been a bit rough on the body (of the driver that is).

Not the clearest photo but I spotted something on the left side of the hood which I cant identify. Anyone know what that could be? Not sure where this was taken, but it is of Bob Bondurant putting his Cobra through its paces...

The secret to this race winning Cobra's success, is the aerodynamic advantage it got from the luggage rack... ;)

That is CSX2345 at the 1964 Nürburgring 1000 Km, co-driven by Bob Bondurant and Jochen Neerpasch. It DNFed.

This photo is from the 1964 USRRC at Laguna Seca, and shows Ed Leslie in #98 (CSX2136) and Ken Miles in #50 (CSX2128).

I'm not 100% certain, but think this is CSX2301 at 1964 Nürburgring 1000 Km, co-driven by Jo Schlesser and Richard Attwood.

It's a little see-through plastic deflector of some sort. The car wore it at the Targa Florio that year too. I'm not sure why it would be needed when running with a full windscreen.

Was the spare tire a retirement from the race rules for the class? or was there a more practical reason?
