Here is a cautionary tale... this is what happens when you loan your car to a friend with no cobra experience. The up side is that no one was injured and that SPF 995 is now back on the road through the magic of Ken Pike, "The Street Rod Painter" in Yuba City, CA.
    Drive safely!!!

Speed Limit's pic is horrific. I wonder what car that was. And a covered body to boot. What a tragic scene.

I keep a few of these shots handy to remind myself of what can happen.
    Scary.

Heck, Darren. A few coats of Zaino will cover most of that up, right? ;-)

Unless there is an FE under that hood, I just don't see $6,500 of value there.

those pics. are a good reminder of just how fragile these things are....be safe guys.

    It hurts me...

I've been in two accidents with Cobras and have witnessed several others (wrote about one of my incidents under Cobra Talk - "Your BIGGEST cobra mishap?" thread). Initially I had photos, but it hurt to much looking at them, so I tore them all up. So sorry guy's, I can't post pictures here.

$6500 seems pretty stiff, considering it has no engine or tranny included..

    Turbo charged Ford

This Cobra still holds the SA record in its class, it ran a sub 10 sec 1/4 mile @ over 230km/h. Please bear in mind that this car was not a dragster but a street going Cobra.

Unfortunately the driver lost control whilst driving in town, he hit the trottle too hard with cold tyres resulting in the tree "jumping" in front of his Cobra. He never raced again and sold his wreck after this incident.

    Cheers
    Alex

This drag racing accident happened before the time I started drag racing at Tarlton raceway and therefore I'm not sure about the exact reasons for the crash. What can be seen from these photos is that it must have been an extremely fast car, notice on the last picture how it ripped out the armco steel barrier.....

    Zwartkops Raceway accident

This happened in 2008 during a Cobra raceday. This Cobra belongs to one of our ex-Cobra Club chairmen. The Cobra has been fully restored and is back on the road again.

If memory serves me right, the Cobra in post #22 was the Fastest Street Car in South Africa in 2002 (a competition featuring gymkhana and drag events). It was raced by Dewald Hurn and maintained by his father Robbie Hurn. It ran a 350 Chevy with some assistance from the NOX bottle. Back in 2002 it ran a 10.7 sec quarter at Tarltons 5188ft altitude. I'm sure it was improved on before the big crash.

Shamrock body, Chev 350 engine, 700R4 transmission, front and rear running gear Jaguar XJ6.
Q don't you have photos of Naties car when he hit the tree right close to his house, the car was badly damaged and it was his lucky day that his kid was not in the passenger seat. Also there was the chap in Sinoville who had just bought a Cobra as a birthday gift to himself and went over the mini circle lost it and wrote himself and the Cobra off against a tree, injuring his passenger.
Here are photos of a Cobra that lost it at Zwartkops raceway. Q I think that you were at the circuit on that day, the chap had his son in law in the car with him. They got out OK.
I think the driver was Phillip du Plessis and the car was ex Garry Swan.
