ACBill, who would drive a car like that? It's a wreck, I wouldn't drive it.

    Cheers

The chap was only doing 30mph, this is the most dangerous speed for any car.
I'm never serious unless I have to be. :crazy

    Hope not.
In this instance it was the thief that stole the car, not the owner, that was killed.

Didn't want to post pics here but this one got to me.

Accident past Sunday in Brakpan. The driver had sustained multiple broken bones, suspected neck and back injuries and possible internal injuries. He is currently in Glynnwood Hospital, in critical condition and on a ventilator.

Hoping for the best. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Cobra Bud.

    Q,

Thanks for posting that picture. It might just make some of the people who see it slow down a little and take it easy. It looks pretty flat a lever there so what happened. Did the driver just lose control and did the Cobra roll. Can't tell much from the picture except it is missing a hood but the rest of the body that I can see doesn't look bad. I hope that he recovers soon.

Not much details except that there was another car involved and that the major damage is on the side you can't see.

    Very grim.

Please, ALL of us take heed.

There is alot of stuff can happen under that accelerator pedal.

    In a heartbeat.

59-year-old driver collided head-on with a white transit van. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but miraculously survived.

Boy, that had to be some kind of miracle. It looks as if the front wheel of the van is setting in the drivers seat.

Good thing that Cobra was RHD or this story would've ended differently.

To me these cars are no safer than a motorcycle. You have to drive defensively, and always, always respect the car and its potential.

That's Rob Walton's car, of Sam's /Walmart. Good thing is he is OK and the car will be repaired.
It is a race car after all and meant to be raced. Never heard what caused the accident, though.
Did he come into a corner too hot or brake failure or ??

Don't know if it is true or not but I heard that he said something broke in the front end just as he was going into the corner. Watching it on TV, it looked like that could be possible as he just sort of angled into the tires instead of hitting head on.

Yeah it was hard to say exactly what happened to Walton's coupe. I know he was running it hard, and was maintaining a solid third place when it happened. Once your off into the gravel it's pretty well, hang on for the ride. I suspect brake fade, but did hear rumors of something breaking. Perhaps that was just to save face.
Another original roadster lost it during that same race, (when entering the corkscrew), and spun into the gravel.. Fortunately he didn't hit anything, and managed to get it back on the track under it's own power. Certainly would have been a serious pucker moment..
