    Carl,

    I don't know a thing about painting, but if I were attempting what you are doing, I think I would get a fairly large piece of material that I could paint at the same time I was painting the car, using the same primer, base coat, etc. Then when you're ready to do the stripe(s), you would have a good platform to experiment on for getting the desired color for the stripe(s) before actually painting them on the car.
    Just my two cents.

    If you do the Invisible stripes, like my roadster, it will save you a huge amount of time. No additional masking, paint mixing, etc. etc. The time you saved, instead can be used getting out driving it.

    Plus, people will never notice if you don't get the stripe centered properly. Look how far off center mine is, and nary a word from anyone...Also far less reflection/glare in the windshield when driving.

    Ted,

    Your point is well made ... I plan on doing a fair amount of practice painting as well. From what I read the practice helps:

    1. Technique ... distance to the surface and speed;
    2. Gun Settings ... Pressure, Fan and Paint Amount;
    3. Confidence ... helps build confidence;
    4. Number of Layers of Paint and Combinations for the Stripes ... as you suggested the only way to really know how the stripe is going to come out before hand is to lay out different versions and check them in the sunlight.

    From the FFR forum one of the professional painters suggests also wrapping some paper around a trash can to practice going around corners.

    Thanks for the inputs ... all the help I can get is much appreciated.

    Bill,

    Thanks for the photos and inputs ... could you describe the specific technique used. It sounds like the stripes were painted first and then the base was applied followed by clear.

    Is that right ...?
