    Pikes Peak Fun

Some of the old cars and some newer ones. A good place for Silver to try out his Viper.

Ron, the race is uphill... Silver could do it with his Viper if it was downhill.

Well he could have it towed to the top and then run it back down.

Well that's better than a Chevy that has to be towed by a Ford both directions.

Nomad would answer that but he is out looking for a Ford to tow his Chevy powered vehicle to the ferry.

Back in the days before it was paved, I worked for Firestone and lived in Colo Spgs. The hill climb tires had walnut shells mixed with the rubber. We would take a hot knife and remove every other rib all the way around the tire. They would grade the road and it was a smooth ride all the way to the top. Last time I went up there it was 104* at the bottom and 62* at the top.

We were in Colorado Springs last month during our vacation and I drove to the top of Pikes Peaks. Once you get above the timber line and there are no trees rising up along the roadway it gets a bit unnerving. No guard rails around the turns and nothing but air from the drivers side view. To race up that mountain is insane. I thought it was a nerve wracking drive. Temperature wise, 65 at the botton, 35 at the top with about a 20 mph wind. Glad I did it though. What an amazing view.

Hey Greg, nice to see you back. How was the vacation? I was at Pikes Peak many years ago and would like to go back.

The vacation was great. Saw lots of very nice places and sights. Plenty of good food too. Drove 4400+ miles and the first thing I did when we got back was take the Cobra for a spin.

What is really amazing is that they don't write off a few spectators every year.
