it was not the thermostat after all ... it was the sensor who gave a false gauge indication.
Testing the new sensor yesterday ..... car slipped the clutch

    Damned , a new ! Tilton race clutch , 1 year old , some 3000 km.... o well, i'm going back OEM.
Those clutches have a great "bite" but cannot withstand playing with the pedal.... the discs are like brake pads , not the more soft stuff we know on common plates.... so , indeed not suitable for street use.... i agree now

On the other hand , i changed to Tilton because my ( new) OEM pressure plate broke ... perhaps i had a bad one from factory...

Darn Barry, you have the kind of luck that I seem to have. I use Center Force race clutches and have never had a problem with them.

    Hey,
I've been down this slippery cliff before.

The race clutch is smaller and lighter. It may increase times a second or two (depending on distance). The other side is that it doesn't work for much more than three race weekends.

The stock clutch will last 5 years.

I say mud guards just add drag to the car.

I finally got my Weber's running well. It's hard to get six Weber's working well to six cylinders:

Yes, there are no air filters as they only have a rain guard (it saves weight).

haha Doc, extra drag .... perhaps, but 5 kg mud on the sides of the car adds weight

no air filters ? i wouldn't do that... one little stone can ruin you engine.

It would probably just cut air flow and make the fuel too rich. It wouldn't run well. I am not worried about dirt in fuel mixture. It would burn it off. It looks good and sounds good. ;)

You may also gain a couple of horsepower. They told me that with my stack fuel injection I could gain about 2/4 horsepower leaving the air filters off. I have no idea if this is true or not.
